FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do in-person or virtual sessions?

Both! I encourage in-person appointments for EMDR and art therapy, but virtual (phone or video call) is always an option. I have an office in Wheat Ridge just east of Wadsworth Blvd and 38th Ave.

Do I need to live in Colorado to work with you?

I am accepting new clients whose permanent address is in Colorado or Florida. I am out-of-network with insurance plans in Florida.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept Kaiser Permanente, Aetna, United Healthcare, Oscar, Oxford, Select Health, and Carelon Behavioral Health.

Some plans offer out-of-network benefits for behavioral health, which means you can be reimbursed for a percentage of the cost of therapy if I am not in-network with your insurance company. I can assist you in finding out if you have out-of-network benefits. I will provide a monthly itemized receipt (called a superbill) for you to submit for reimbursement.

Unfortunately, because I am not a Medicaid or Medicare provider I cannot see clients with these forms of insurance.

What are your self-pay rates and how long are sessions?

Individual sessions are 55 minutes and cost $180.
Parent-child sessions (up to two adults present) are 55 minutes and cost $210.

When appropriate, I may recommend and offer back-to-back sessions. These extended sessions of up to 110 minutes – although never required – are ideal for going deeper with intensive EMDR and/or art therapy.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. If I am not in-network with your insurance, I can help you find out if you have out-of-network benefits that will make therapy more affordable. I also welcome HSA and FSA as forms of payment.

Do you only work with LGBTQ+ clients?

Not at all! Everyone is welcome in my practice. Some clients seek me out specifically because I am a queer therapist but I work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and identities.

You're a woman, so why do you work with men?

I firmly believe that a therapist's identity does not need to completely mirror that of their clients in order to make a human connection and provide effective therapy. I primarily worked with men from 2019 - 2024 as an art therapist at The University of Colorado - Anschutz. My clients were military veterans and first responders (Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, Dispatch, and Corrections).

The majority of my clients were men who often told me they would have never tried art therapy voluntarily, but it turned out to be one of the most impactful experiences in their recovery. The efficacy of art therapy with military populations is well-documented. The National Endowment for the Arts provides funding for art therapy for active duty service members in military instillations across the country.

For many men, sitting across from a stranger and being asked to talk about their feelings just doesn't work. In an art therapy session the client is given a clear directive or prompt. You work with their hands, engage in problem-solving, and whatever you create becomes the starting point for the conversation. EMDR also requires less verbal processing than most forms of therapy. I enjoy introducing men to forms of therapy that set them up for success.

Can you work with me if I'm not in my teens, 20s, or 30s?

I do not work with minors under age 12. I primarily work with two populations:

  • LGBTQ+ teens and young adults in their 20s and early 30s

  • Adult men of any age (most are not LGBTQ+)

If you do not fall into either of these categories, please schedule a consultation so we can decide if it feels like a good fit.

How often will we meet?

New clients typically see the best results from weekly therapy sessions. I ask clients to see me once a week for the first month so we can become comfortable together and identify your goals for therapy. After that, we can decide whether it makes sense to decrease the frequency of sessions. More frequent sessions can also be accommodated, especially if you are struggling and need additional support.

Do you offer group therapy?

I am planning to offer an 8-week art therapy group for LGBTQ+ teens in Summer 2025, more information coming soon!
